How to make a Cool Gemstone Using Inkscape

It is a bit tricky to make a nice gemstone. Much of it has to do with the glare. The strokes can also be taken as difficult to work with. They have a tendency to make the stone look like an average clipart from the 90s. In this tutorial, you will learn how to avoid those issues to get your gem stone to look more professional. Basically, this is what you will learn to make:

Instructions

Note: You may click the screenshot to enlarge it.
Step1: Open inkscape and then go to View>Page Grid.

Step2: Choose the square option from the left of your inkscape menu.

Step3: Draw a rectangle shape on your canvass by dragging your cursor.

Step4: Change the width 200px and height to 200px. You can choose any other number, but make sure, you have a square.
Step 5: Press select button from the left menu.

Step 6: Go back to your square shape and press on it.

Step 7: Rotate the square as shown below. Use the grid to get the four points of the shape at precise angles.
Step8: Unselect and then select the shape. Then start pushing the middle point to get a diamond like shape as shown below.

Step9: Choose a moderately dark color of your choice and unselect. Here we are using 3946c8ff. Do uncheck stroke.

Step 10: Choose Bezier curve, spiro path as smooth and none from shape selection.

Step11: Draw a triangle on one side of the diamond.  We are choosing the left one. See the
screenshot. If you are having trouble viewings use the zoom option from the left menu.

Step12: Make a duplicate of this triangle by selecting and then right clicking your mouse.

Step13: Flip this new triangle horizontally.

Step 14: Flip this now vertically.

Step15: Drag this triangle to below opposite side of the first triangle.

Step 16: For both the triangles, choose a lighter shade of the original color. In this tutorial, we are using 00ffffff. After this step, I have removed the grid. If you wish you can do the same. But if the grid is helping you keep it.

Step17: Choose linear gradient from Fill and Stroke window for both the triangles. Drag the gradient light of the two to meet each other in the middle of the diamond shape as shown in the screenshot.

Step18: Go back to first shape and select to duplicate it.

Step19: For this one, choose white color.

Step20: Select the shape and then lock the height and width.

Step21: Shrink the size of this shape and put it in the middle of the two gradient triangles.

Step22: Bring the opacity of this shape to 171.

Step23: Duplicate the shape.

Step24: Bring its color back to solid state.

Step 25: Choose linear gradient.

Step26: Point the light to upper region of the shape as shown below for the final touch.

That's all. You can use a black background under this stone to see its coolness.
